    The Aaron and Rose Shapiro New Era Scholarship is for incoming freshman who graduated from Benjamin Cardozo HS, DeWitt Clinton HS, Forest Hills HS,Francis Lewis HS, Bayside HS, Ft. Hamilton HS, E.R. Murrow HS, Hunter HS, Midwood HS, LaGuardia Music/Art HS, or Townsend Harris HS. Students need a minimum of an 85 high school average and 1200 SAT (Critical Reading and Math).


    Achievement Medal of the Art Alumni – The Eggers Award (undergraduate and graduate)

    The Achievement Medal of the Art Alumni – The Eggers Award is given for achievement in a specific area of studio art. Recipeints are chosen by Art Department faculty. For further information please visit the Art Department web page.


    Acoustic Recording Award

    This is awarded to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) performance majors.


    Ada Shepard Award

    Awarded to a student of creative writing whose work is judged to be the best submitted to the Center for Worker Education. The award was established by Katherine Titakis ’84 in honor of her mother.


    Adelaide Jablonsky Award

    The Adelaide Jablonsky Award is for a promising sophmore or junior in any field of art study.


    Alan Friedlander Scholarship. Stuyvesant-CCNY

    The Alan Friedlander Scholarship. Stuyvesant-CCNY is for incoming CCNY students who graduated from Stuyvesant High School. The fund was established in memory of Mr. Alan Friedlander.


    Alan L. Scher Memorial Award

    The Alan L. Scher Memorial Award is a merit scholarship to an outstanding student who has started the senior year with at least 20 (24?) credits in Chemistry.


    Albert & Frances Hochman Scholarship

    The Albert & Frances Hochman Scholarship is for excellence in Chemistry to either a undergraduate or graduate student.


    Albert A. Blum Award in Labor Studies

    The Albert A. Blum Award in Labor Studies is for the best student paper (undergraduate or graduate) in the field of labor studies.


    Alumni Association of CCNY McGraw Hill Scholarship

    The McGraw-Hill Construction's Annual Scholarship was established in 2004 in honor of Frank J. Sciame, Jr., B.Arch. '74. The scholarship rotates annually between The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture and the Grove School of Engineering.


    Alumni Scholarship

    Amadou Diallo Educational Criminal Justice Award

    The Amadou Diallo Educational Criminal Justice Award was established in 2001 by the Amadou Diallo Education, Humanitarian and Charity Foundation. This award is for a student who is a Computer Science major with a 3.0 or greater GPA who shows evidence of financial need. Student must have community &/or college service.


    Ambassador John Price Scholarship

    The Ambassador John Price Scholarship is for high-achieving rising juniors (full time) who are committed to improving the public good and who demonstrate a capacity for leadership. No formal GPA, but must demonstrate the ability to excel in program. The scholarship is designed to promote the study and understanding of Sub-Saharan Africa issues of conflict resolution--2-year program. A stipend is provided to students who participate in a public service-related. Other than rising juniors, we encourage all students to apply.


    Andrew Grove Challenge Grant

    The Andrew Grove Challenge Grant is awarded at the discretion of the Dean of The School of Engineering.


    Annette Langer Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    The Annette Langer Memorial Endowed Scholarship has been established by alumnus Mr. Howard I. Langer, Class of 1973 English major, in memory of his mother. The scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman.


    Aranow, David/Rae Biomedical Fund

    This Aranow, David/Rae Biomedical Fund is used to provide urgent financial assistance to students.


    Art Stevens CCNY PRSA NY Scholarship

    The Art Stevens CCNY PRSA NY Scholarship is for a outstanding student in Ad PR with demonstrated interest in pursuing career in PR.


    Arthur & Linda Gelb Scholarship

    The Arthur & Linda Gelb Scholarship is awarded to graduate students in BME who has financial need.


    ASCAP-Chappell/Gershwin Award

    The ASCAP-Chappell/Gershwin Award is for the best composer/arranger of theater music.


    ASCE Met Section Robert Ridgway Award

    The ASCE Met Section Robert Ridgway Award is a prestigious award given each year to an ASCE student member who excelled academically throughout his/her career.


    ASCE Met Section Younger Member Forum (YMF) Service Award

    The ASCE Met Section Younger Member Forum (YMF) Service Award is an annual award typically given to an ASCE student member who excelled in serving the ASCE (usually an officer of the ASCE Student Chapter).


    Ash Award

    The Ash Award is for students in the Sonic Arts.


    August Anthony Gavasci Award

    The August Anthony Gavasci Award is for a student demonstrating promise in course performance and research in the fields of Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Cell Biology. A submitted paper is not required.


    Barbara Aronson CWE Social Justice Award

    The Barbara Aronson CWE Social Justice Award is awarded to a CWE junior or senior for either study/research abroad in an underdeveloped nation to research issues of human rights, labor, or sustainable development; OR a one-year long internship in an organization whose mission is to promote social justice. Students will also document their experience in an essay.


    Barnett Scholarship

    The Barnett Scholarship is awarded to a pianist for private instruction.


    Baskerville Award

    The Baskerville Award is an award for Scholarship and Achievement in Chemistry.


    Bayor Prize

    The Bayor Prize is for a history major who has done outstanding work in the field of the America.


    Benjamin & Beulah Massey Scholarship

    The Benjamin & Beulah Massey Scholarship is for 2 students in the 5th year at Sophie Davis. Selection is based only on academic merit and having come to the US from a non-English speaking country.


    Benjamin Harrow Memorial Award

    The Benjamin Harrow Memorial Award is for Chemistry student (s) in the undergraduate research program. (For excellence in research. Best Presentation and Mastery of the research topic).


    Bernard Haber Scholarship

    The Bernard Haber Scholarship is for a student who will graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering & who has already completed a minimum of 9 civil engineering courses.


    Bernard Hamermesh Scholarship

    The Bernard Hamermesh Scholarship is awarded to the outstanding graduating Physics major who has demonstrated some of the skills, knowledge, technique and imagination necessary for a successful Experimental Physicist and who shows promise of being an active contributor to the research efforts in some branch of Experimental Physics.


    Bernard Levine Scholarship

    The Bernard Levine Scholarship is for juniors with a high GPA in biology, chemistry and math/physics major and is awarded at the discretion of Dean of Science.

    The Celia Portnoy Memorial Stuyvesant/CCNY Scholarship is for an incoming freshman who is Stuyvesant HS graduate.


    Certificate for the Educational Leadership Program

    The Certificate for the Educational Leadership Program is for students in the School of Education. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above and must demonstrate leadership and service to the community.


    Certificate for the Graduate Program in Early Childhood

    The Certificate for the Graduate Program in Early Childhood award is for students who must demonstrate outstanding professionalism and leadership.


    Charles E. Inniss Architectural Award

    The Charles E. Inniss Architectural Award is given by the City University Construction Fund.


    Chemical Engineering Award

    The Chemical Engineering Award is awarded at the discretion of the Chemical Engineering department.


    Chemical Engineering Textbook Fund

    The Chemical Engineering Textbook Fund is awarded at the discretion of the Chemical Engineering Dept.


    City College Scholars Award

    The City College Scholars Award is for entering freshman in the honors program.




    City College Undergraduate Fellowship

    City College Fellowships help support talented students who are considering entering Ph.D. programs in preparation for careers as college teachers and/or researchers. The fellowship program aims to develop the next generation of faculty, starting with the undergraduate training of Fellows and culminating in their placement in Ph.D. programs.




    Civil Engineering Alumni Scholarship

    The Civil Engineering Alumni Scholarship is a fund created to support two $1000 scholarships awarded annually to one Junior and one Senior Civil Engineering student. Evaluation of the worthy candidates shall be made by the Civil Engineering Dept. The final decision shall be made by a selected committee.


    Class of 1940 Scholarship

    Clinton Climate Initiative Center for Architecture Foundation Award

    For their team leadership efforts in CCNY's entry in the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon 2011


    Colin Powell Fellowship in Leadership & Public Service - Undergraduate

    Targets high-achieving CCNY undergraduate students (full-time) with interests in leadership, public service, and public policy. Preference is given to rising juniors, but other students are encouraged to apply. A stipend is provided to students who participate in a public service-related summer internship.


    Community Service Award

    The Community Service Award is awarded to students in the SEEK Program. Students are selected at the discretion of the Director of SEEK.


    Computer Science Discretionary Fund

    The Computer Science Discretionary Fund is used at the discretion of the Computer Science Dept.


    Davic & Eleanore Rukin BME Award

    The Davic & Eleanore Rukin BME Award is awarded to a minimum of 1 undergraduate. Scholarship awarded annually. If sufficient funds are available, additional tuition/research scholarships may be awarded to a graduate or undergraduate.


    David B. Steinman Scholarship

    The David B. Steiman Awards was established in 1954. The awards are in the form of loans & grants, ranging from $100 to $500, to deserving & needy undergraduate students in the school of Technology or to graduating seniors who need financial assistance to pursue full-time graduate work in engineering. The awards shall be based on character, scholarship, range of knowledge and interests, well-rounded performance and leadership potential.


    David Levine and Ruth Garfinkel Levine Scholarship

    The David Levine and Ruth Garfinkel Levine Scholarship is for an undergraduate freshman in the School of Education and maintain a 3.0 gpa.


    Dean’s Prize in Art (undergraduate or graduate)

    The Dean's Prize in Art for undergraduate and graduate students is awarded by Art Department Awards Committee. Winner receives a cash award. Dean pays for framing or mounting or a piece selected for a year-long loan to Dean’s office.


    DFI (Deep Foundation Institute) Stanley Merjan City College of New York Civil Engineering Scholarship

    The DFI (Deep Foundation Institute) Stanley Merjan City College of New York Civil Engineering Scholarship is awarded to up to 3 outstanding civil engineering students interested in construction.


    Ditzion Prize

    Ditzion Prize is a scholarship application for the best paper in social history.


    Dobrich New Americans Scholarship

    Dobrich New Americans scholarship targeted, but not limited to, first- and second-generation immigrants. It is open to high-achieving CCNY students enrolled full-time. Preference is given to rising sophomores, but other students are encouraged to apply. A stipend is provided to students who participate in a public-service-related summer internship.


    Donald Sloan Scholarship

    The Donald Sloan Scholarship is awarded to a Biochemistry Ph.D. student with at least a minimum 3.0 GPA.


    Doris Lippman Prize in Creative Writing

    The Doris Lippman Prize in Creative Writing is for the most accomplished body of work by a student in the Graduate Program in Creative Writing. Both Lippman and Dejur awards require submission of a significant manuscript, e.g., a collection of poems and short stories; a substantial novel excerpt; or a combination of forms. Submit two copies of the same manuscript if you are applying for both Lippman and Dejur.


    Dr. Jerry A. Gelbwachs Scholarship

    Dr. Jerry A. Gelbwachs Scholarship is for Physics or Electrical Engineering students, that are U.S Citizen, with a SAT score of over 700 and upper 25% HS rank. A NYC 4-yr residency required.




    Dr. Paul Fenster & Mrs. Rosalind Fenster Engineering Scholarship

    Dr. Paul Fenster & Mrs. Rosalind Fenster Engineering Scholarship is a scholarship for full tuition coverage, based on need & merit, for a student majoring in Electrical Engineering. Subject to availability of funds.

    The Drake Award is for the top four students in Theory II, awarded by the Music department.


    Dunet Prize

    The Dunet Prize to help support students future studies in History. Student must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.


    E.Y. "Yip" Harburg Scholarship

    E.Y. "Yip" Harburg Scholarship is an award for a sophomore that is a theater major, that has a 3.0 or above GPA, and offers service to community.


    Edith & Ernest Maclin Scholarship

    The Edith & Ernest Maclin Scholarship is for students in Engineering. Awarded on the basis of need to a student entering at least junior year with a min 2.5 GPA.


    Edmund Baermann Scholarship in Natural Sciences

    Edmund Baermann Scholarship in Natural Sciences is for students completing the Biology core with the best performance in his/her courses. Candidates are selected from grade sheets for Biology 228 and 229, and examination of transcripts.


    Education Alumni Scholarship

    The Education Alumni Scholarship is a current junior in a CCNY SoE teacher preparation program. Student must have an overall 3.0 GPA to be eligible and one year's participation in some organized CCNY activity related to Education.


    Edward I. Koch in Public Service

    Edward I. Koch in Public Service is a scholarship for high-achieving incoming freshman with need. Expected to perform 200 hours of community service, maintain a 3.2 GPA and is renewable for 4 years.


    Edward Rivera Prize for Autobiography

    Edward Rivera Prize for Autobiography is honoring a student who excels in autobiographical writing. This prize is named after Edward Rivera, City College Professor of English and acclaimed author of the novel Family Installments who taught autobiography, fiction writing, and literature courses at CWE until his death in 2001.

    Ephraim & Libby Banks Memorial Scholarship

    The Ephraim and Libby Banks Scholarship is a (1) $500 award that is awarded to to an undergraduate majoring in Biology or Chemistry. The applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA in science and mathematics. Preference is that it be given to eligible students who are participants in The City College Fellows Program, intended to prepara outstanding graduates for careers as college and university faculty.


    Ernest Borek Scholarship Fund

    This scholarship goes to UG or Masters student who shows promise in Chemistry or Biochemistry.


    Eugene and Rudolph Brancati Scholarship

    The Eugene and Rudolph Brancati Scholarship is for needy students at The City College of New York.


    Eugene Bellin Scholarship

    Awarded for 2 consecutive years for a student who has a B or better grade point average, has completed between 60 and 90 credits, has completed 2 semesters at CWE, and has a documented record of activity on behalf of social justice. Awarded every other year.

    Given to a graduate student for outstanding achievement in history and theory

    Family of Irving J. Brenner Scholarship

    Established in 9/98; Scholarships for the Science Dept to Seniors on Merit and Need: ONE to pre-med and ONE to math or hard science major. Please always give two tuition scholarships each year using the full amount available. Students must compose a letter of appreciation addressed to Mrs. Marian S. Brenner, to be delivered in person to Elena Sturman at The City College Fund. Also, please contact Mrs. Brenner directly each year with news of student and invitations to Dept.

    Joseph E. Robbins Loan Fund

    Matriculated students in the School of Engineering, undergraduate or graduate, are eligible to apply for a loan offered by the Joseph E. Robbins Loan Fund. The interest-free loan is to help engineering students during emergencies, and should be repaid by the borrower so that the loan fund may be perpetuated. The aximum size of the loan is set at $500. The applicant must sign an agreement to repay the loan if it is granted. A committee, consisting of the Dean of Engineering (Chair), the Associate Dean and the Director of Curriculum Guidance, will review all applications and make final decisions in confidence. The intention is to use only income while principal remains intact. Recipient must compose a letter of appreciation to Mr. Robbins, to be delivered in person to Elena Sturman at The City College Fund.(Currently Underwater)

    LSAMP

    This program is aimed at increasing the quality and quantity of students successfully completing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) baccalaureate degree programs, and increasing the number of students interested in, academically qualified for and matriculated into programs of graduate study. LSAMP supports sustained and comprehensive approaches that facilitate achievement of the long-term goal of increasing the number of students who earn doctorates in STEM fields, particularly those from populations underrepresented in STEM fields. The program goals are accomplished through the formation of alliances. Phase I awards place emphasis on aggregate baccalaureate production.     The James Emanuel Poetry Prize

    The James Emanuel Poetry Prize is for the best single poem written by an undergraduate in the style of a major British or American poet. The student should, at the same time, try to maintain aspects of his/her own voice and vision. In other words, the poem should show signs of originality of expression, while evoking the poet being imitated. The imitated poet’s name should appear on the manuscript. Submit up to 3 poems, but the prize will be awarded for a single poem.


    The Jerome Lowell Dejur Award in Creative Writing

    The Jerome Lowell Dejur Award in Creative Writing is for a graduate student with the greatest potential as a creative writer. Both Lippman and Dejur awards require submission of a significant manuscript, e.g., a collection of poems and short stories; a substantial novel excerpt; or a combination of forms. Submit two copies of the same manuscript if you are applying for both Lippman and Dejur.

    One or more Sidney Jacoff Graduate Fellowships will be available to our department for an undergraduate or graduate English major who is graduating, who has demonstrated excellence and a potential for scholarship, and who requires assistance in pursuing graduate study. Students must have GPAs over 3.5 to apply for this fellowship, and must submit the following to Professor Doris Barkin: - A letter in which the student expresses the desire to be considered for the award - Letters of recommendation from two (2) faculty members -A letter of acceptance into the proposed graduate English program.

    The Stark Essay Award in Literature is an award for the best essay on literature.


    The Stark Poetry Prize in Memory of Raymond Patterson

    The Stark Poetry Prize in Memory of Raymond Patterson is for outstanding poetry by a graduate student. For this award, students must submit between 5 and 12 pages of poetry.


    The Stark Short Fiction Prize

    The Start Short Fiction Prize is for an outstanding work of short fiction. Examples of these short writing pieces may include, a short story or novella by a graduate or an undergraduate student.


    The Stuyvesant-CCNY Scholarship Project

    The Stuyvesant High School City College of New York Scholarship Project is awarded to a graduate of Stuyvesant High School that maintains good academic standing, with minimum 85 average GPA and 1100 minimum SAT score.


    The Teacher-Writer Award

    The Teacher-Writer Award is an English award for students promised of a career combining dedicated teaching with achievement in creative writing or by a student that is recommended for a faculty nomination.


    The Toni Cade Bambara Endowed Scholarship

    The Toni Cade Bambara Endowed Scholarship is for an undergraduate full-time student in his or her senior year who has been accepted into a graduate program at the City College of New York and who intends to become a writer. Students interesting in applying for this scholarship, must submit a letter in which the student expresses the desire to be considered for the award, letters of recommendation from two (2) faculty members, and a letter of acceptance into the proposed graduate program.


    The Undergraduate Children's Writing Award

    The Undergraduate Children's Writing Award is awarded for an excellent children’s picture book, story, chapter book or young adults book by an undergraduate student.


    The Ward Medal

    The Ward Medal is to the student with the best overall record in his or her Biology courses. Both grades received and number of courses taken will be considered in the selections of recipients.


    The William Bradley Otis Fellowship in American Literature

    For a graduating senior who has performed outstandingly in American Literature courses. To apply, students must submit the following to Doris Barkin/The Mack Committee: - A letter in which the student expresses the desire to be considered for the award - Letters of recommendation from two faculty members.


    The Winifred and Joseph Femiani Scholarship

    Students interested in the Winifred and Joseph Femiani Scholarship must have earned 30-60 credits, must be in an Education program, and must have a GPA of 3.0 or above.


    Theodore Wittes '47 Scholarship in Civil Engineering

    The Theodore Wittes '47 Scholarship In Civil Engineering scholarship is available to undergraduate Civil Engineering.


    Therese Ralston Connor Awards

    Scholarships for the study of art, normally applicable against tuition charges. Students are eligible for up to four semesters of support. Applicants must maintain a 3.00 average and have no outstanding in-completes at the time of application. Art history students must submit two papers with abstracts. Applications are reviewed once per semester for use in the following semester. Deadlines for spring and fall semester applications are typically late October and late March. In addition, there is a summer travel award cycle, the deadline for which is typically mid-April. Preliminary review of undergraduate applications is made by the Art Department Awards Committee, graduate applications by the Graduate Committee and by the art history faculty, depending upon the applicant's area of specialization. Amounts of awards, which vary, are determined by the Executive Committee.

    Washington Semester Scholarship


    About:

    The Colin Powell School's Washington, D.C. Semester Program offers students an outstanding opportunity to live, work, and study in the nation's capital. Students spend the spring semester interning at a government agency or nonprofit organization while completing 12 credits, including two special courses designed just for them and taught in D.C. The program also provides a series of guest lectures, organizes cultural activities, and sponsors networking events.

    • The award is to be given based on need and merit to an eligible entering freshman and renewed for four years (five for engineering, architecture and biomedical students) so long as the student continues to meet the criteria. • Recipient is to be from the Bronx with demonstrated high academic achievement. • Student must demonstrate need as determined by the CCNY Office of Admissions. • Minimum criteria for incoming freshmen is a final cumulative high school GPA of 85 and a combined SAT score of 1200. • Student must maintain a 3.2 GPA each academic year to continue receiving scholarship. • Students in all areas are eligible.

Student must submit a personal statement of not more than two double spaced pages detailing career objective, voluntary experience, financial need and academic obstacles and achievements.
